California Probation Laws
According to § 1203 of the California Penal Code:
- “Probation” means the suspension of the imposition or execution of a sentence and the order of conditional and revocable release in the community under the supervision of a probation officer.
Probation is often issued by the court as an alternative to a jail sentence. Probation is granted on the condition that the defendant follows through with the terms of their probation.
